Developed out of Beauty and the Bike , Darlovelo is a new initiative, designed to address the low levels of everyday cycling in Darlington amongst young adults, women, and especially amongst young women.  The Promotions Officer will be based at Darlington Media Workshop, the home of Darlington Media Group, and will have access to a range of media facilities and skills to help with the task of promoting Darlovelo.

We are looking for a part-time Promotions Officer to:

  1. •Promote Darlovelo

  2. •Manage the administration of  the Darlovelo hire bikes

  3. •Increase participation in cycling, particularly amongst young people

  4. •Develop new initiatives to encourage people to cycle and join the Darlovelo scheme

  5. •Promote cycling as a fun and healthy means of travel

Excelsior: Stylish ladies bikes in red or black, with completely enclosed chain, skirt guard, and basket so you can cycle in your evening dress if you wish. These bikes come with three gears, front hand brake, rear back-pedal brake and a modern, reliable and efficient hub dynamo so you need never think about batteries again.

Gazelle: The famous Gazelle range of bikes, manuafactured in Holland, include these Original Dutch models. Darlovelo has one gents and one ladies Gazelle. Both feature enclosed chain, skirt guard, and basket. They also come with seven gears, front and rear hand brake, and a hub dynamo for the front light. The fixed rear light is powered by a battery.

Our bike hire scheme is expanding! We have raised funding for a paid post to develop stylish cycling in Darlington.

Darlovelo is a city bicycle sharing scheme for Darlington. It makes stylish Dutch bikes available for use by Darlington residents for a small weekly charge. To take advantage of the scheme, you need to join Darlovelo. Members then pay a small deposit. Once we have confirmed your residence, you can hire our bikes on a monthly basis. You pay a small deposit, and a weekly hire charge of £5 (£2.50 concessions) to use the bikes. Darlovelo grew out of the Beauty and the Bike project when the girls in Darlington realised that stylish, attractive bikes were simply unavailable locally. Now the UK bike industry is backing our project with a grant from Bike Hub, the industry’s fund for innovative new ideas. With this money, the bike pool will be expanded to include a wider range of stylish and attractive city bikes, including models from Bobbins, Pashley and Gazelle. The project is also supported by Darlington Cycling Campaign and our local Sustrans workers, who help maintain and repair the fleet.
