Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010Beauty and the Bike – The Short, The Book, The Exhibition
Thursday, November 19th, 2009This 8 minute version of our documentary film forms part of the extras on our DVD, which will be available for sale from 14th December for £14 (€15).

Meanwhile, the accompanying book has just gone to press, with a release date set to coincide with the DVD. The book charts the journey of the Darlington girls, as they discover the results for cyclists in the UK of transport policy failure. But they also get a glimpse of how it can – and will – be in the future, as the crises of climate change and obesity demand a radical rethink.
The book is also on sale for £14(€15), with a package price for the two together of £24(€25). You can read a review of the film by Northern Echo journalist Steve Pratt here.
An exhibition of selected images from the project is now open at Darlington Media Workshop. The launch was attended by the Bremen MEP Dr. Helga Trüpel.
You can order copies of the DVD and book by emailing us at dmg@bikebeauty.org.

Sign Petition for Bike Lanes
Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009
One of the top conclusions of the Beauty and the Bike project is that young women want more cycle lanes when roads are busy and dangerous.
Sustrans, the UK’s leading sustainable transport charity, has started a petition on their BikeBelles website that encourages women to cycle.
They interviewed ‘over 1000 women to find out what they believed would most persuade them and other women to cycle more’.
‘Overwhelmingly women wanted more cycle lanes separated from traffic, so Sustrans has launched our Motion for Women petition calling on governments to prioritise the creation of environments that encourage and support cycling, including cycle paths separated from traffic, as a way of enabling many more women to travel by bike.’
As a result, Sustrans has started a petition to show support for safer bicycle infrastructure.
You can sign the petition until November 29, 2009 right here.
